MWM Signature Drive for Safer Malaysia @ Bukit Gasing

About 400 people turned up at Bukit Gasing to support this event. Initiated by Malaysia Women Marathon race director, Karen Loh, the gathering called Malaysians to make a stand for a safer Malaysia.

“Madam Irene Ong Ai Sam who was killed for a failed attempt of robbery at Gasing hill on 20 April should not die in vain. It was more horrific to know that there will always be snatch thieves around but to have one killed because they couldn’t get money out of her takes the issue to another level.”

The event was joined by Safer Malaysia and residents of PJ Section 5. HooHa/ Twenty First Century Sports sponsored some drinking water and T-shirts for the participants.

According to the police, a mobile beat base is stationed in Bukit Gasing to ensure the safety of joggers and those out on walks. The mobile beat base operates for six hours daily from 7am to 10am and from 4pm to 7pm.

The main objective of the gathering is to have a memorandum signed by as many as possible to ensure safety of women marathoners when training and handed over for a Bar Council forum same day at 4 PM.

"We sign and make a stand. Let us unite to acknowledge that we no longer want this social ill to grow to an uncontrollable stage. Let us say out loud - Don't Kill, Don't Rob, Don't Attack."

The barefoot runners baring their soles for a safer Malaysia. ;)

The two daughters of the late Madam Irene Ong were also there. Hui Wei, wrote a poignant blog post for her late mother. Read it HERE.

About 400 signatures were collected so far from the gathering this morning. According to Karen, this will not stop here. MWM will work with Safer Malaysia to create more awareness to make Malaysia a safer place for everyone.

Safer Malaysia Committee of the Bar Council will host a forum today at 4pm at the Bar Council Auditorium Kuala Lumpur on escalating crime and offering solutions.

There will also be a virtual vigil in memory of all Victims of Crime today at 7pm where you may light a candle between 7pm till 8pm, take a photo of your vigil and post it on Safer Malaysia page or Malaysian Crime Awareness Campaign page.

The VIPs - (L-R) Dato' Radha Krishnan ( Managing Director of UFL), Rennie Lee (Head of Operations/Leasing of Mid Valley Megamall), Steven Goh (CEO of W.O.S World of Sports (M) Sdn Bhd) and Carol Wong ( Assistant General Manager of W.O.S) ceremoniously unhooked the carabiners attached to red ribbon balls.

FYI, carabiners are widely used in rope-intensive activities such as climbing, arboriculture, caving and sailing. How apt, eh?

Urban Adventure is the first concept store in South East Asia, with a total area of 5,000 sq. ft. located in Mid Valley Megamall.

Urban Adventure consolidates international renowned outdoor brands such as Columbia, Teva, Salomon, Hi-Tec, Mountain HardWear, Lafuma, Eastpak, O’Neill, Dakine, Keen, Coleman, Deuter, Maglite, leatherMan, suunto, CamelBak, Buck, Aitor, Seac Sub, Kor, McDavid, Dupe and many more. It also houses outdoor eyewear brands such as Julbo, Amphibia, WileyX, UVEX, Recspec, Callaway, Knobloch and Optx2020. We are wiping our drools as we type! LOL!

The grand opening brought together VIPs, celebrities, shoppers and outdoor sports enthusiasts for a remarkable experience of fun and adventure. Here’s hot mama, Ning Baizura with 8TV Step Forward host/ Columbia Spokeperson Baki Zainal.

Comedian Harith Iskander was spotted trying out the Suunto M5 Men's Heart Rate Monitor and Fitness Training Watch.

All ready for Urban Adventure!

The attraction of this new concept store is now embedded with outdoor amenities that facilitate climbers with a 20 feet Urban Playz wall equipped with professional guide and professional gears.

During the grand opening, we get to watch finalists of ‘Need for Speed Challenge' scaled up the climbing wall to grab the amazing prizes offered.

Congrats to the winners of the ‘Need for Speed Challenge'.

Review: Unboxing of Adidas ClimaCool Revolution Running Shoes

Would you buy shoes which are full of holes? We would, only if they are the latest adidas climacool® (CC) Revolution. Heheh!

The adidas CC Revolution shoes promise a 360° ventilation running experience.

Let’s take a look.

Our pair comes in prime blue / black / metallic silver. Designed with strategic climacool® ventilation, the running shoes feature a mesh upper, a durable ADIWEAR™ outsole and weigh 260 grams.

New ventilation channels across the outsole and the use of climacool® material on the upper of the shoe, helps sweat to evaporate.

The benefits of 360° ventilation are reduced thermal stress and discomfort during workouts. As a result, there will be an increase of running performance.

ADIWEAR™ outsole offers the ultimate in high-wear durability and non marking property.

The tongue of the shoe is long and stylish.

Perforated sockliner for increased breathability.

In addition, the COOLEVER lining, a special clover-shaped yarn, keeps the foot cool and help manage sweat.

This is how the shoe looks like when you take out the sock liner. As you can see, there are channels on the bottom of the shoe to allow the foot to breathe and heat to escape.

We also like the small detail on the tip of the shoelace. ;)

In theory, we reckoned the adidas CC Revolution are going to do well on a rainy day run too since there are channels in the shoes to drain out the rain water. No more sloshy shoes! We will definitely take them babies out for a run in the rain to test this theory out.

Even if you are not good at running, at least you can do is look to good running like Beckham! :)

Check out the ever cool David Beckham in the adidas climacool® Revolution latest TV commercial where he is on a run in the summer heat. While the rest of the city is trying to get any bit of breeze with the help of hand-held fans and window-mounted air conditioners, Beckham enjoys a cool and ventilated run in his climacool® Revolution.

Directed by Nathan Price and developed by 180LA, the film will launch in both a 15-second and a 30-second version in time for the shoe’s global retail launch.

The new climacool® Revolution running shoe retails at RM470 for both men and women and are available at the following adidas Sports Perfomance Concept Stores:
• adidas Suria KLCC (Level 3)
• adidas Pavilion (Level 5)
• adidas The Gardens (Level 3)
• adidas Empire Subang (Upper ground floor)

Press Release: Donate Your Ex for a Good Cause!

Standard Chartered KL Marathon brings together EcoKnights and New Balance in support of a good cause

Kuala Lumpur, 23 April 2013 – Recently, many were spotted carrying along a pair of their used shoes in town. These were the throngs of people who came together to support EcoKnights for a good cause.

A charity partner of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon, EcoKnights worked together with New Balance at a charity drive last Sunday at The Square, Publika, rewarding those who donated their shoes with New Balance discount vouchers.

Rainer Biemans, Project Director of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon shared, “We provide our charity partners with more than just monetary support. This in particular was an opportunity for our sponsor New Balance to support the efforts of EkoKnights. This is another example of how the Standard Chartered KL Marathon is built on the efforts of bringing people together under a common banner for a good cause. This is why the Standard Chartered KL Marathon is recognised as more than just a marathon.”

Yasmin Rasyid, Founder of EcoKnights said, “We are glad to have this collaborative effort with Standard Chartered KL Marathon to collect these used shoes. Thanks to the public’s support, we have collected more than a hundred pairs of shoes which will be donated to the indigenous communities of Temenggor.”

Elliza Abdul Rahim, one of the contributors shared, “I dumped my ex for a good cause! It was great that EcoKnights and New Balance gave me the opportunity to care for the wellbeing of indigenous communities. Not to forget the Standard Chartered KL Marathon who brought this together.”

Apart from the public charity drive that happened on Sunday, Standard Chartered Bank – the title sponsor of Standard Chartered KL Marathon also had an internal charity drive to collect used shoes last Friday. The event was held at Menara Standard Chartered. Staffs were also encouraged to donate their used shoes to EcoKnights.

Standard Chartered's Country Head of Corporate Affairs, Liz Kamaruddin said, "We are glad to see that the benefit of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon going beyond sports. Through this campaign, many have come together to donate their used shoes for a good cause.”

Review: Nike Dri-Fit Touch Tailwind Short-Sleeve Running Top

Nike Malaysia launched the latest Nike Free running line which is the Nike Free 5.0+, 4.0 and 3.0 recently. Read about it HERE. We were invited to a media session where we get to try on the latest Nike Free 5.0+ and the Nike Dri-Fit Touch running t-shirt.

The all new Nike Dri-Fit Touch Tailwind running t-shirt is a performance tee that uses Dri-FIT Touch fabric to achieve technically advanced cooling with a comfortable, soft feel. This in turn provides optimal comfort, ventilation and range of motion while on the run.

Nike indeed picked a right time to do the trial - on a hot sunny afternoon.

So, off we went around the Damansara Mutiara housing area for a 2.5km run in the Nike Free 5.0+ and the Nike Dri-Fit Touch running t-shirt.

We sweated buckets. But how did the T-shirt hold up? Read on.

The Nike Tailwind Short-Sleeve V-Neck Men's Running shirt features soft, Dri-Fit Touch sweat-wicking fabric. It is indeed very soft and comfortable on the skin. The mesh fabric allows sweat to evaporate easily and fast thus providing a cool sensation.
Unlike cotton Tee, you won’t get weighed down by a drenched feeling, even after a scorching run in the middle of the afternoon!

For those who like to run in the late evening or night, you will appreciate the reflective elements on the shirt, like on the Swoosh.

Holey moley! Three holes on each side of the underarm for better ventilation. Get that steam out! Heheh!

We love the right back hip pocket which comes with a zip. It’s perfect to store a small MP3 player. You might want to use it to keep small items like money, keys or a pack of energy gel. The zip feature is only available on the T-shirt and not available on singlet top.

Cord management solution to tame those earphone cords. It is reflective as well.

When we got home that evening, we hand washed the T-shirt around 9pm and let it air dry. It was completely dry and ready to be worn on the next morning! We loike!

Overall, we would give a thumb up for the Nike Dri-Fit Touch Tailwind running t-shirt. The most comfortable running t-shirt we have tried on so far. Don't take our word for it, do try it yourself!

Nike Dri-Fit Touch Tailwind is available now for RM159 each at selected Nike retailers.

Note: We did not get the chance to fully experience the Nike Free shoes on a longer run. But do check out fellow runner blogger Jamie’s take on it HERE.
